I do hope you are enjoying what passes for summer this year, I can only remember seeing sun back in May. However some lucky people are still going off on holiday.
We have had a very busy summer session in the church so a big thanks to those who have turned up on a regular basis to provide cover for all the services. It never fails to amaze me that the church doors remain open and enough helpers arrive. Sometimes we’ve only just had enough people so if you’re tempted to put your feet up remember every pair of hands is needed.
Our Honorary President Bernice has had her feet up for the last eight weeks but on Doctor’s orders. Her hip replacement op. has gone well and it will not be too long before she’ll be back on the platform. She sends thanks to everyone for the cards, flowers, good wishes and help offered.
We’ve had a number of events in the church as well as the regular services. Our annual “Introductory Workshop” was well attended. As Bernice was not able to tutor this year we were very fortunate indeed to have Nita Saunders volunteer to lead the afternoon session. Everyone enjoyed the day and thanks in no small part to so many of our current Developers providing an excellent buffet and a very warm welcome to all who attended.
On Thursday evening the 25 August our platform saw our Fashion Show and Auction with very lovely ladies modelling a range of beautiful clothes. Some were “new to you” but an amazing number were brand new with labels still attached to prove it. We all took advantage of the bargains on offer and a fun evening was had by all the ladies and the one brave gentleman who attended. Sincere applause acknowledged the family effort of Marion Baird’s daughters Pauline and Lisa as well as her granddaughter Katy and her friend Sheila. Not only did the girls organise and model for the event but they also provided a generous raffle prize which was drawn on the evening. So if you see some very elegantly dressed ladies in the church you’ll know why. The evening raised a wonderful £262 for church funds, again thanks to all who donated clothes and “bid” at the auction.
Some members also found time to attend a Festival Production called “VOICES”. It was one of the most sensible, realistic and enjoyable portrayals of what it is like to be guided by a voice that only you can hear or divine inspiration to give it another name. Most mediums would be able to identify with the character brought so wonderfully to life! Keep checking our website as we have a very interesting programme of events planned for autumn.
